Evan Englebrook ’04 has returned to his alma mater and joined the SU Baseball Coaching Staff for the 2025 season. Englebrook serves as the team’s pitching coach.
 
After a standout career with the Raiders from 2001-04 in which he struck out 236 career batters in 236.1 innings pitched, Englebrook was selected in the eighth round (244th overall pick) of the 2004 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the Houston Astros and spent 11 seasons in professional baseball.
 
In his 2004 senior season, Englebrook was named an American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) First Team All-American, becoming the first SU player in 13 years to be so honored. Englebrook went 11-1 with a 1.78 ERA, striking out 113 batters in 86 innings. The All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Western Division First Team honoree started all 13 games in which he appeared and finished six of them, including two shutouts, while holding opponents to a .190 batting average.
 
As a junior in 2003, Englebrook went 6-5 with a 2.92 ERA, striking out 67 batters in 80 innings over the course of 13 games. He was 5-1 as a sophomore, striking out 50 batters in 60.1 innings.

Overall, in 41 games as a Raider, Englebrook was 22-7 with a 3.39 career ERA.
 
Englebrook was in professional baseball from 2004-15, including two seasons in AAA. His first seven seasons were spent in the Astros organization, where he worked his way up the ranks. Englebrook played for the Tri-City Valleycats in the New-York Penn League after getting drafted and spent the 2005 season with the Lexington Legends in the Sally League. He threw 114.2 innings in 2005, his most in any season, posting an 8-6 record with 101 strikeouts.
 
After playing for Salem in the Carolina League in 2006 and 2007, Englebrook was promoted to AA and the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League in 2007. He pitched for the Hooks for the entire 2008 season, appearing in 34 games and throwing 55.1 innings.
 
In 2009, Englebrook got the call up to AAA and he alternated between the Hooks and the Round Rock Express (AAA) during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Between the 2009-10 seasons, Englebrook won an Arizona Fall League Championship pitching for the Peoria Saguaros.
 
In 2010, Englebrook was added to Houston’s 40-man roster. Between Corpus Christi and Round Rock that season, Englebrook made 42 relief appearances and threw 56 innings, striking out 49 batters.
 
Following the 2010 season, Englebrook pitched in the Venezuelan Winter League for the Aragua Tigers. In 2011, he pitched for the Lancaster Barnstormers in indie ball before being signed by the Toronto Blue Jays organization in 2012. Englebrook pitched for the Dunedin Blue Jays (A) and New Hampshire Fisher Cats (AA) in 2012.
 
His final two seasons of pro ball in 2014 and 2015 were spent in indie ball. Englebrook returned to the Lancaster Barnstormers in 2014 and contributed to a team that won the Atlantic League Championship. In 2015, Englebrook began the year in Japan with the Kochi Fighting Dogs before returning to the states. He wrapped up 2015 pitching for the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, Bridgeport Bluefish and Camden Riversharks.
 
Overall, in 11 years of pro ball, Englebrook posted a 32-29 record over the course of 596 innings -- appearing in 305 games and striking out 488 hitters.
 
A native of Mechanicsburg and a graduate of Cumberland Valley High School, Englebrook resides in Carlisle.
