2018 (R-Sophomore): Played in all 11 games, making eight starts, as an integral defensive back…led the team with single-season career bests of four interceptions and 14 pass defenses…credited with a team-high 10 pass breakups…totaled a single-season career best 39 tackles (27 solo), ranking sixth on the team…amassed a single-game best seven tackles, an interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery at West Chester…intercepted passes in back-to-back games against Slippery Rock and Cal U…returned an interception 30 yards for a touchdown in the season finale at IUP…registered six tackles against Cal U and LIU Post…tallied multiple pass breakups in three games and at least one pass breakup in six games…finished with at least one tackle in 10 games, including multiple tackles in eight games.
 
2017 (R-Freshman): Appeared in all 12 games as a reserve defensive back and special teams performer in his first full season on the field…finished with 17 tackles (11 solo) and one pass breakup…recorded 1.5 tackles-for-loss (TFLs), all against Millersville…posted a single-game best of five tackles at Gannon…registered at least one tackle in eight games.
 
2016 (R-Freshman): Did not play.
 
2015 (Freshman): Redshirt season.
 
Roman Catholic High School: Totaled three varsity letters with the Cahillites under head coaches James Murphy and Joseph McCourt…earned All-City First Team and All-Catholic League First Team honors as a senior and All-Catholic League Second Team honors as a junior…amassed more than 1,000 all-purpose yards in his career…career statistics include 15 touchdowns and six interceptions…played slot wide receiver on offense and described by his coach as a “jack of all trades”…served as a senior team captain…also competed in track & field.
 
About Chaney III: Full name is John Chaney III…is the son of John Chaney Jr. and Maria Chaney…majoring in management...has a brother, Sean Long…father John Jr. was an All-Public League basketball player…grandfather is John Chaney Sr., a member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2001, who was the long-time coach of both Temple and Cheyney.
