2012-13 (Sophomore): Earned NCAA All-America honors in the javelin during a successful season with the Raiders…placed sixth at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the javelin with a season-best throw of more than 215 feet…finished second at the PSAC Outdoor Championships with a throw of more than 212 feet…surpassed 60 meters in six of his seven competitions during the season…achieved USTFCCCA All-Region honors for the second consecutive season.
2011-12 (Freshman): Won the conference championship in the javelin as a freshman and qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in his debut season of collegiate competition…earned his PSAC crown with a personal-best throw of more than 216 feet, besting three other NCAA qualifiers in the competition…competed seven times during the outdoor season…finished six of seven meets with a throw of 60 meters or greater…earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors.
Martinsburg Central High School: Amassed eight varsity letters with the Dragons, including four in track under coach Bud Chonko…also earned three letters in football and one in basketball…placed third at the PIAA state championships in the javelin as a senior and took sixth place as a junior…holds his school record for the javelin…earned three Mountain League All Star awards…was a two-year member of the National Honor Society.
Personal: Full name is Derek Caine Nothstein…is the son of Bryce Nothstein and Lori Brumbaugh…double majoring in management information systems and finance…has two siblings, Erin and Jerry Brumbaugh Jr.
