2011 (Junior): Continued to work as one of the team’s primary starters in his third year with the Raiders…posted a 5-5 overall record…made 15 appearances, including 12 starts…notched two complete games…struck out 49 batters in 68 innings of work…outdueled MLB draft pick Jeremy Gigliotti of ESU with a complete-game victory in which he allowed just one run and struck out eight hitters…named the PSAC Eastern Division Co-Pitcher of the Week for his efforts…tossed six shutout innings with six strikeouts in impressive performances against Catawba and West Liberty…earned his first PSAC Eastern Division Pitcher of the Week after his outing against the Hilltoppers…also picked up PSAC victories over Clarion and Bloomsburg…achieved the win in SU’s PSAC tournament victory over East Stroudsburg with 7.2 innings of work…pitched for the Slippery Rock Sliders during the summer.

2010 (Sophomore): Thrived on the mound in his second season with the Raiders…led the team in ERA, innings (58.0) and strikeouts (48) while making nine starts…appeared in 13 games overall…logged three complete games…struck out a career-high nine batters and allowed just one earned run through five innings in his season-opening start in the snow at nationally-ranked Catawba…impressed in his only victory of the season, throwing eight innings in a win at nationally-ranked Valdosta State…allowed just two earned runs and struck out six batters in a no-decision against nationally-ranked Kutztown…went at least six innings in all of his conference starts, three of which were quality starts…completed a solid summer campaign with the Oneonta Outlaws of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL)…compiled 2.89 ERA through 53 innings…appeared in nine games and made seven starts…struck out 30 batters…held opponents to a .226 batting average.

2009 (Freshman): Appeared in 15 games as a pitcher during his debut season with the team…made three starts…posted a 1-3 record…struck out seven batters…pitched in 23 innings…threw 5.1 scoreless innings of relief against Bloomsburg and earned a victory.

Downington West High School: Won two letters competing in the Ches-mont Conference under head coach David Oleszek…earned Honorable Mention for All Ches-mont and All Area teams during his senior year…also played legion ball in Downingtown for head coach Scott Rambo…compiled a 7-0 record with a 1.67 ERA as a high school senior in legion ball.

Personal: Full name is Nicholas Donald Umberger…is the son of John and Mary Umberger…majoring in marketing… his sister Sarah recently graduated from Shippensburg and his brother currently attends Penn State…father John was a four-year varsity football player at Shippensburg who graduated in 1979.
