Biography

2011 (R-Junior): Again served as a reliable fullback for the Raiders, starting nine games and playing in all 11…was fourth amongst all backs in rushing, totaling 176 yards on 46 carries for a 3.8 average with two touchdowns…was the team’s second-leading receiver out of the backfield and set career highs with 13 catches for 113 yards (8.7 average) and two touchdowns…had a season-best game at Gannon, carrying the ball 14 times for 59 yards and a score while adding 38 yards receiving on four catches (all season highs)…ran for 28 yards on seven carries against Kutztown…scored two touchdowns at Millersville, carrying the ball five times for 23 yards including a three-yard score and catching one pass for a 17-yard touchdown…scored again the next week at East Stroudsburg with a nine-yard reception (two catches total for 18 yards) while carrying the ball 10 times for 31 yards…for the third season in a row, named to Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-Super Region 1 Team, this time a third team selection at fullback.

2010 (R-Sophomore): Led the team in rushing for the second straight year as an always dependable fullback for the Red Raiders…named to the All-PSAC Eastern Division Second Team squad…selected to the 2010 Don Hansen's Football Gazette All-Region Second Team…totaled 560 yards and five touchdowns on the ground...only eight of his 134 rushes (six percent) went for negative yards…averaged more than 50 rushing yards per game...ran for a career-high 116 yards on 24 carries against Gannon…amassed 72 rushing yards and scored twice against West Chester…scampered for 77 yards and a touchdown in the season finale against Lock Haven…also reached paydirt against Cheyney and Kutztown…caught six passes out of the backfield for 34 yards…had 13 rushes of 10 or more yards…posted a 5.1 yards per carry average on first-down rushes.

2009 (R-Freshman): Exceeded all expectations in his first full season with the Red Raiders…named a Second Team All-American at fullback by Don Hansen's Football Gazette…was the only freshman named to either the First, Second or Third Team Offensive squad and is one of just two first-year players recognized overall by the publication…also named to the All-PSAC Eastern Division First Team squad…ranked seventh in the PSAC for total rushing yards (727)…scored five touchdowns…finished second on the team with 188 total offense plays despite missing one game due to injury…averaged 3.9 yards per carry…took the handoff for 37 percent of SU's rushes this season…only 15 of his 188 rushes (eight percent) went for negative yards…hauled in six passes for 41 yards…tallied the most rushing yards in a season since NFL pro John Kuhn in 2004…battled for a career-high 112 rushing yards in a win over Cheyney while averaging 4.1 yards over the course of 27 carries…performed well in the playoffs, averaging 4.5 yards per carry in the State Game and totaling 142 yards in two games against Cal…had 22 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns against East Stroudsburg…reached paydirt twice at Edinboro…accrued 70 or more rushing yards in six of his 10 games. 

2008 (Freshman): Redshirt season.

Parkland High School: Led the Trojans to a berth in the PIAA Class 4A state championship game where the team finished with a 15-1 overall record and went 9-0 in the Lehigh Valley Interscholastic Athletic Conference...played for head coach Jim Morgans...ran for 955 yards and 10 touchdowns on 171 carries as a senior...team went 26-2 during his junior and senior seasons, including back-to-back undefeated regular seasons and an 18-0 record in the LVIAC...team won the District IX championship his senior year...Parkland was ranked at No. 4 in the final Pennsylvania Football News Class AAAA poll in 2007...team went 11-1 his junior season, including 9-0 in conference...had 14 carries for 101 yards and a touchdown against Ridley in a PIAA Class 4A semifinal game...his 56-yard touchdown run with 2:09 left capped a 7-play, 99-yard drive and sent the Trojans to the state title game with a 35-21 victory...named All-Lehigh Valley Second Team as a senior...also played linebacker...totaled 10 tackles in the state championship game versus Pittsburgh Central Catholic along with 12 carries for 27 yards...scored 17 touchdowns for the 135-pound North Parkland Buffaloes who went 11-0 and were Suburban League champions in 2003...had six rushing touchdowns, one interception return for a touchdown and one fumble return for a touchdown for the 110-pound North Parkland Buffaloes in 2002 who also went 11-0 and were suburban league and division champs.

Personal: Full name is Kevin M. Herod…is the son of Linden and Sandy Herod... majoring in management…has two brothers, Darryl and Jermaine...Darryl spent two years on the IUP football team.
