2009-10 (Sophomore): Repeated as the PSAC Indoor and Outdoor Track Athlete of the Year, helping her team win conference championships in both seasons…won individual national championships in the 5K during the indoor and outdoor seasons…achieved All-American honors with a second-place finish on the DMR squad at the NCAA indoor meet…helped both 4x800-meter relay squads set new PSAC records…set the all-time PSAC individual record in the indoor and outdoor 3K…won six conference championships and finished second to teammate Mary Dell in her other PSAC event…named the overall and track MVP of the PSAC indoor meet…earned the Division II Female Sportsmanship Award for her selfless actions at the PSAC indoor meet…won a PSAC Winter Top 10 award…honored as a ESPN/CoSIDA Third Team Academic All-American…finished fourth in the 5K at the prestigious Penn Relays.
2008-09 (Freshman): Became the first athlete in the history of the PSAC to win Athlete of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards in three different sports during the same calendar year, achieving the honor in cross country and both branches of track and field… won a national championship on the indoor DMR squad that set a national meet record…achieved an individual national championship in the outdoor 5,000-meter run with another school record, the first outdoor national championship in school history…set the school and PSAC record for the indoor 3,000-meter run, an indoor school record in the mile and an outdoor school record in the 1,500-meter run…became the first outdoor All-American in the 5,000 meters since 1999…earned five PSAC championships and a total of six all-conference certificates between the indoor and outdoor season.
Shippensburg Area Senior High School: Competed for the Greyhounds in athletics during her final two years of high school after ruling allowed home-schooled students to compete locally…won state cross country championships on two occasions…earned two state championships in the 1,600 meters…won a 2-mile national championship in 2008…finished as a two-time Foot Locker cross country All-American…instructed at SASHS by Randy Holtry…also runs for Cumberland Valley Athletic Club.
Personal: Full name is Neely Harteis Spence…is the daughter of Steve Spence and Kirsten Harteis…majoring in human communication studies while seeking a minor in coaching…has two sisters, Reynah and Margeaux, and a brother, Eli…father is a former Olympic marathoner and her current assistant coach.
