Biography

Casale, the 2009 Zack Topper Memorial Scholarship recipient, returns as a senior captain and will once again bring his professional attitude and work ethic to the Red Raiders this season along his intrepid leadership from the middle linebacker position. After an all-conference second team selection in 2007, Casale ranked third on the team last season with 76 tackles while starting all 11 games. A true professional in every sense, Casale will once again fulfill an invaluable role in the middle of the Red Raider defense this season.

2008 (Red-shirt junior): Furthered his grip on a regular linebacker position with Shippensburg after maintaining his pace established in the 2007 season…affirmed his veteran presence as an outside linebacker by starting all 11 of the team’s games…ranked third on the team with 76 tackles and fourth on the team with 32 solo stops…slotted fourth on the team with 9.5 tackles for loss…created a ruckus in opposing backfields with three sacks while breaking up one pass…recorded a season-best 10 tackles against Edinboro…picked up nine tackles in a victory over C.W. Post and in contests against Mercyhurst and West Chester…had two tackles for loss against Bloomsburg and Cheyney… finished with at least three tackles in every game during the season…averaged 5.6 tackles per game in Eastern Division contests.

2007 (Red-shirt sophomore): Grabbed a firm hold of a starting linebacker position for the Red Raiders in his second season with the team… finished second on the team with 71 tackles and nine tackles for loss… ranked third on the team in solo tackles with 34 while tying for the team lead in tackle assists with 37… named to the All-PSAC Western Division Second Team… led the team in tackles against nationally-ranked opponents in the final two games of the season with 13 against IUP and 14 against California (Pa.)…recorded at least two tackles in every game during the season and finished with 40 tackles in the final five games of the season… recovered a fumble and returned it 16 yards against IUP…sacked Kutztown’s Kyle Spotts for a loss of 10 yards…totaled three tackles for loss for six yards against California (Pa.) in the season finale…appeared in all 11 games during the season and made four starts… made nine tackles, including six solo at home against Edinboro…registered a quarterback hurry against Liberty and a pass breakup against Lock Haven.

2006 (Red-shirt freshman): Participated in seven games for the Red Raiders recorded one solo tackle in contests against Kutztown, California (Pa.), Edinboro and assisted on a tackle in the season finale against Clarion … appeared off the bench in games against Mansfield, West Chester and Indiana (Pa.).

2005 (Freshman): Red-shirt season.

Cumberland Valley High School: Played for head coach Tim Rimpfel … played linebacker and fullback … led his team in rushing yards (666) and tackles (110) in his senior season … scored 15 touchdowns as a running back and recorded an interception, sack and forced a fumble at linebacker … named to the all-district squad in 2003 and the Carlisle Sentinel All-Defensive First Team in 2004 while a captain of his team … competed on a squad that won the Mid Penn Commonwealth Championship and were District 3 Champions.
