Biography

As a junior (2008): Continued her presence as the main backstop for Shippensburg, appearing in 51 games while starting in 47…threw out six runners trying to steal against her…committed just two errors for a .992 fielding percentage…finished with a .243 batting average, totaling 25 hits in 103 at-bats…drove in 12 runs and scored 17 times…had four doubles and a .282 slugging percentage…walked 11 times and struck out just 11 times and hit two sacrifice flies…drove in multiple runs on two occasions and finished with multiple hits in six games…rounded up her first two RBIs of the season against Belmont Abbey on March 2 in Salisbury with a double to right center and finished the game with three RBIs…shone against West Chester on April 22, going 3-for-3 with two singles to the right side, and one up the middle while finishing the doubleheader 5-of-6 from the plate.

As a sophomore (2007): Started in all 52 games in which she appeared, missing just two for the entire season…posted a .304 batting average (48-of-158) to go along with eight doubles and one home run…batting average was third-highest among regulars…totaled 19 RBIs…walked 16 times while striking out just 12 times to post a .366 on-base percentage…led the team with seven successful sacrifices…committed just four errors and totaled a fielding percentage of .986…scored 30 runs and totaled 59 bases… threw out seven opposing base runners and had one pickoff…was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base in the season opener against Elizabeth City State on February 23…compiled separate six-game hitting streaks, including hits in the final six games of the season…smacked two hits in five consecutive games from March 25-28…scored seven runs over that same stretch…recorded at least one RBI in 13 games for the Lady Raiders…totaled 13 multi-hit games on the season, including a 3-for-4 performance against Ashland (Ohio) on March 23…held without a hit just twice over the last 13 games of the season.

As a freshman (2006):
Appeared in and started 60 of the team’s 62 games … started 37 games as a catcher, 13 at third base and 10 as the team’s designated player … batted .302, the second-highest average on the team, with 55 hits in 182 at-bats … led the team with 11 doubles and second in RBIs with 27 … also had one home run and scored 26 runs … had 15 multiple-hit games and seven multiple-RBI games, the second-highest total on the team … had two, five-game hitting streaks and a season-long six-game hit streak … hit safely in 37 of her 60 games played … opened the season with hits in seven of her first nine games … went 9-for-29 (.310) with four RBIs and three runs at the Rebel Spring Games March 11-17 … went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and one run against Minnesota State-Mankato on March 12 … was 3-for-4 against New Haven on March 16 in 8-0 victory … went 4-for-9 with four runs and one RBI in doubleheader sweep at Shepherd on March 22 … was 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI and her first career home run, a solo homer to left in the fifth, against Bluefield State on March 25 … totaled three game-winning RBIs, including two against Bloomsburg … hit an RBI-single in the top of the eighth of game two to give Shippensburg an 8-5 victory at Bloomsburg on April 24 … with the score tied at 5-5, Wedell singled to center field to score Heather Chantiles … on March 31, she singled to left field in the bottom of the eighth, scoring Chantiles to give the Lady Raiders a 1-0 victory over the Huskies in game one of a doubleheader split at Robb Field … went 3-for-5 with one run and two RBIs in a doubleheader sweep of Kutztown on April 24 … was 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run while serving as the catcher for Kelley Tiesi’s 1,000th career strikeout in a 12-2 victory at Mansfield on April 25 … went 10-for-20 with six runs and five RBIs during her six-game hit streak from game one of a doubleheader at Bloomsburg on April 19 to game one at Mansfield on April 25 … was 4-for-15 with two runs in four games at the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Region Championship.

Before Shippensburg:  Four-year letter winner for head coach Marianne Shultz at Northeast HS … named all-county first team as a senior by the Maryland Gazette, Washington Post and Baltimore Sun … also named all-county first team as a sophomore and second team as a junior … played in title game at NSA 14U National Championships ... also qualified for 2003 ASA 16U National Championships as a member of the Shamrocks … was also a two-time Maryland Gazette all-county selection in field hockey, earning first team honors as a senior and second team as a junior.
