SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer was stymied by Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division foe West Chester during a 2-0 setback Saturday afternoon at David See Field, 2-0.
Shippensburg (1-1-2, 1-1-0 PSAC East) could not solve a West Chester (1-1-2, 1-0-0) defense that posted its second clean sheet in four games this season.
Ryan Krumenacker was a bright spot for the Raiders, registering a season-high seven saves in goal – including five in the second half.
Golden Ram forward Peter Tichy netted a goal in each half for the visitors. Luka Bentsen and Joshua Rick provided assists.
The Golden Rams registered 12 of their 18 total shot attempts and seven of their eight corner kicks after halftime.
Adding to SU's frustration, the Raiders could not convert the set-piece opportunities they did create.
Nate Herb, coming off a pair of set-piece goals in a win over Bloomsburg Wednesday, was held to just a single shot on goal – a first-half header that forced one of West Chester goalie Jaden Howard's better saves.
Howard finished with four stops in the Golden Ram net.
Mathieu Barbirati led the Raiders with a pair of shots on goal.
Tough, physical play resulted in four Shippensburg yellow cards. West Chester received one caution.
Shippensburg next travels to Shepherd for a midweek contest Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
