SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University sophomore
Thomas Cano-Piszel was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week on Tuesday.

Cano-Piszel went 8-for-13 in a four-game series against Shepherd, reaching base in 10-of-16 plate appearances (eight hits, two walks - .625 OBP). Impressively, he had two hits in all four games of the series.

The SU first baseman produced two home runs, two doubles, a sacrifice fly and totaled five RBIs. The 16 total bases resulted in a 1.231 slugging percentage for the week. He also scored six runs and struck out just once.

Cano-Piszel is currently riding a 13-game hitting streak and overall he has at least one hit in 31 of his last 32 games dating back through March 7 - his lone game without a hit came in Game 1 against West Chester on April 11. Through 42 games this season, Cano-Piszel has a registered a hit in 39 of them.

It is the first-ever regional hitting award for Cano-Piszel. He is the fifth Raider to receive regional accolades this season, joining
Brenden Anderson (April 29),
Ty Sherman (April 13),
AJ Wenrich (March 11) and
Evan Shoffler (Feb. 18, March 17).

Cano-Piszel was previously named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Athlete of the Week.
