SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team split a Friday doubleheader at home against Lock Haven, winning the opener 12-1 in five innings before dropping Game 2, 4-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division action at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (16-10, 6-6 PSAC East) totaled 15 hits on the day, with 11 of those coming in Game 1. Lock Haven (15-13, 7-7 PSAC East) totaled nine hits on the date, plating five runs.

Leah Schwalm went 4-for-7 at the plate, recording a double and a single in each game. She added two RBIs in Game 1. Â

Four Raiders recorded two hits on the day.

Dani Hayward got the win in the circle in Game 1 for the Raiders, striking out three batters. Hayward totaled six strikeouts on the day after pitching four innings in Game 2.

Game 1: SHIP 12, LOCK HAVEN 1

Schwalm delivered her first hit of the day in the bottom of the first inning with two outs.
Reagan Bauman recorded an RBI single to put SU on the board.
Emilee Sullivan followed with a single and
Rilee Ehrlacher cleared the bases with a triple to make it 3-0.
Lindsey Haser hit an RBI single to make the score 4-0.

The Raiders added a run in the bottom of the second after a Bald Eagle error.

Lock Haven's lone run of the game came in the top of the third. The Bald Eagles notched their first hit of the day with a leadoff single followed by a walk. With two runners on, the Bald Eagles scored off a sacrifice fly to make it 5-1. They threatened to score again after a double to center field, but the runner was thrown out at home to get the third out.

Brie Wilmot and Haser opened the bottom of the third inning with a walk and hit by pitch.
Caitlyn Martell singled to make the bases loaded for SU. Schwalm followed with an RBI single to drive in a pair of runs and make the score 7-1.

SU increased its lead in the bottom of the fourth. Ehrlacher led off with a single followed by Wilmot's third walk of the game. Haser hit a double to increase the lead to 9-1.
Sarah Sabocsik launched her fifth home run of the season to make it 11-1.  After a pair of Bald Eagle errors and a walk, the Raiders had the bases loaded.
Morgan Koehler pinch hit and drew a walk to score the Raiders last run of the game, 12-1.

The Raider defense made three quick outs in the top of the fifth inning to end the game via run rule.

Hayward struck out three batters and allowed just two hits, both in the third inning.

Four Raiders recorded two hits in the game. Haser went 2-for-2 with a double and a single, and 3 RBIs. Ehrlacher and Bauman went 2-for-3; Ehrlacher added two RBIs, and Bauman recorded one. Schwalm went 2-for-4, with a double and single, recording a pair of RBIs.

Game 2: LOCK HAVEN 4, SHIP 1
Â
Lock Haven had runners in scoring position in the bottom of the first after a pair of walks and a sacrifice bunt, but the Raider defense kept the game scoreless after a strikeout from Hayward and a foul ball caught by Schwalm.

Martell led off the bottom of the first with her second home run of the season to make it 1-0. Schwalm hit her second double of the day, but back-to-back outs ended the inning.

Hayward picked up a pair of strikeouts in the top of second. Neither team had a baserunner until the bottom of the third inning. Sabocsik got on base after getting hit by a pitch, followed by a single from Schwalm, but the Raiders were unable to score. Â

In the top of the fourth, the Bald Eagles saw their first home run of the day when Olivia LeMeau hit a leadoff home run. Lock Haven threatened to score again after a pair of singles, but the Raider defense ended the inning.

Maddy Borowski came in to pitch in the top of the fifth inning and struck out the first batter she faced. After a pair of singles, Hailey Irwin launched a three-run home run to put the Bald Eagles up by three and make the score 4-1.

In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Martell almost had her second home run of the day, but a defensive play from Lock Haven's centerfielder ended the inning.

Ehrlacher drew a walk in the bottom of the seventh but a double play from the Bald Eagles and a foul out ended the game at 4-1.

Hayward got the start in the circle for Game 2, striking out three batters and allowing just three hits. Borowski pitched three innings, recording a strikeout and scattering four hits, with three of those coming in the fifth inning.

Schwalm went 2-for-3, with a double and single. Martell and Cimino each added a hit.
