SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Shippensburg University senior
Brenden Anderson was named the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Atlantic Region Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday.
Â
Anderson tossed SU's first no-hitter since the 2018 season in a 3-1 victory over Mansfield in Game 2 of a doubleheader Friday at Fairchild Field. Overall this week, Anderson pitched to a 1.08 earned run average over 8.1 frames. Â
Â
The right-hander took the ball for just his seventh career start and dominated the Mounties over the course of seven frames. He posted his first complete game on an efficient 87 pitches and totaled four punchouts.
Â
He retired the Mansfield lineup in order four times. The only blemishes on his pitching line were a walk and a pair of hit batters – one of which came around to score.
Â
The outing was SU's first no-hitter since Gabe Mosser on March 17, 2018 (a 4-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown).
Â
It is the first-ever regional pitching award for Anderson. He is the fourth Raider to receive regional accolades this season, as
Ty Sherman (April 13),
AJ Wenrich (March 11) and
Evan Shoffler (Feb. 18, March 17) were previously named Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week.
Â
Anderson also was named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Pitcher of the Week.
