SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted its annual Fun Swim Meet this semester, bringing together student-athletes and members of the local community for a night all about fun, connection, and a little friendly competition.

Held in Heiges Field House, the event is open to participants from the Special Olympics as well as youth in the local community, including Circle of Friends. SAAC partners with both organizations each year to create an opportunity for everyone to compete and be part of the fun.

The meet included activities like pool noodle relays, biggest splash, and coolest trick. The focus of the event is not really on winning; it's about creating an environment where everyone can feel included and have fun.
The Fun Swim Meet has become one of SAAC's most meaningful events, giving student-athletes the chance to connect with the community in a different way.

"The SAAC Fun Swim Meet is one of my favorite events of the year," said Ashley Grimm, SAAC advisor and Shippensburg's Associate Director of Athletics. "One of SAAC's missions is to engage and serve the broader community, and this is one small way for them to do that. The participants and their families so appreciate this opportunity annually, and the SAAC reps and broader student-athlete population do such a great job to make this such a fun and meaningful meet."

Grimm also gave a shoutout to assistant swim coach Jen Flinchbaugh for organizing the event each year.

"She's a rockstar," Grimm said.

With strong support from student-athletes and the community, the Fun Swim Meet continues to be a highlight each year and a reflection of SAAC's commitment to inclusion and engagement.
