SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team delivered a pitch-perfect Senior Day result on Saturday as it dispatched Millerville, 13-5, in a convincing Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory at sunny and warm Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (6-9, 3-7) avenged an overtime loss earlier this season at Millersville (5-10, 3-8) by holding the Marauders scoreless for the opening 26 minutes of play. SU led 6-0 late in the second quarter, 8-1 at halftime, and 11-3 after three quarters.
Â
The Raiders limited Millersville to just 11 shots on goal – the lowest total by a PSAC East opponent against the Raiders since March 27, 2021. SU committed just 14 turnovers – tied for its second-fewest in a game this season – and succeeded on all but one of its 24 clears.
Â
Before the match, the team honored its six seniors:
Jill Ahlgren,
Shawn Coombs,
Grace DeMarzio,
Sydney Fowler,
Ali Pioli and
Shannon Wood.
Â
All six seniors started and significantly contributed to SU's first home win over the Marauders since 2012.
Â
Wood scored three times, and her hat trick came entirely in the second quarter. She also added an assist and three groundballs.
Â
All three of Wood's goals were assisted by
Olivia Glinski, who finished with a team-high six points (two goals, four assists).
Â
Ahlgren scored her sixth goal of the season and had an active stick as she tied for the team lead with three caused turnovers. Fowler provided the game's final goal, converting a feed from Pioli with 2:04 to go. Pioli had a goal, an assist and two draw controls.
Â
On the back lines, DeMarzio was once again an active force. DeMarzio joined Pioli in the 200 career draw-control club while matching Ahlgren with three caused turnovers and leading the Raiders with five groundballs.
Â
Coombs was right with her – recording four groundballs and two caused turnovers.
Â
Alexa Bailey and
Brynn Hauck also found the back of the net for Shippensburg. Hauck added two groundballs and a caused turnover.
Â
Off the bench,
Aubrey Bailey  scored twice, while
Maddie Phommachanh contributed a goal, two groundballs and a caused turnover.
Â
Izzy Sawicki turned aside more than half of the shots she faced – making six saves while yielding just five goals against. She also scooped up two groundballs.
Â
KC O'Neill was strong in goal for the visitors, making 12 saves to go along with a caused turnover and five groundballs.
