SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University junior outfielder
Ty Sherman was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Baseball Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Â
Sherman went 9-for-16 (.563) with eight RBIs, eight runs scored, two home runs, two steals and 16 total bases as the Raiders took three of four from No. 18 West Chester this weekend. He scored at least one run in all four games of the series.
Â
In Game 1 Friday, Sherman went 4-for-5 with a pair of three-run home runs to help the Raiders score a 17-4 victory. The 17 runs were Shippensburg's most in a game against West Chester since the 1998 season, while Sherman's four hits and seven runs driven in both represented new career highs.
Â
Sherman had a multi-hit game in both halves of a doubleheader Saturday. Additionally, he played a major role in SU's game-winning rally during its 7-6 triumph in Game 2.
Â
With SU trailing 6-5,
AJ Wenrich started the sixth-inning comeback with a double. Sherman then singled and stole second base to put the go-ahead run into scoring position. Sherman later crossed home plate on a
Brady Harbach sacrifice fly with what would turn out to be the game-winning run.
Â
It is the first weekly honor of Sherman's career. He is the first SU player to win conference recognition since
Evan Shoffler was named East Co-Athlete of the Week on March 16.
