SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's track & field team began the 2026 outdoor season Saturday at home, as the Raiders hosted the second annual Keystone Challenge on a sunny 60-degree day at Seth Grove Stadium.
Shippensburg had the overwhelming majority of its competition Saturday in field events. Among the most impressive were a pair of throws that satisfied the NCAA provisional qualifying standard.
Gian Greggo won the shot put with an outdoor personal best of 57 feet, 11 inches (17.65 meters) that ranks second all-time in school history behind outdoor record holder Grant Smith. For Greggo, it's a new personal best of 2 ½ feet.
Jackson Hersh was the runner-up in the javelin throw but nonetheless unfurled a mighty toss of 204 feet, 5 inches (62.32 meters) for an excellent start to his sophomore campaign.
Those performances were two of 10 that met the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships qualifying standards. Greggo had two wins on the day, as he also claimed the hammer throw with a top toss of 168 feet, 4 inches (51.32 meters).
Ridge Crispino matched him with a PSAC cut in the event, placing third on a top throw of 158 feet, 1 inch (48.18 meters).
Freshman
Josh Durika took full advantage of his first collegiate outdoor meet by winning the discus, achieving a top mark of 149 feet, 9 inches (45.64 meters) for a PSAC qualifier.
Donovan Kitchen (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) joined Greggo with a PSAC cut in the shot put; his top launch traveled 51 feet, 7 inches (15.72 meters), while
Mason Pretopapa achieved a PSAC qualifier in the javelin of 189 feet, 4 inches (57.72 meters).
Jackson Sotosky and
Ethan Conrad highlighted the long jump with sturdy conference marks. Sotosky continued his exemplary horizontal jump work at the long jump runway with a second-place mark of 23 feet, 5 ¼ inches (7.14 meters) that puts him into a three-way tie for 10th place on the school's all-time outdoor rankings. Conrad, meanwhile, placed fifth on a top mark of 23 feet, 0 ¾ inches (7.03 meters).
Gilberto Raphael Ramos recorded his PSAC qualifier in the pole vault, clearing 14 feet, 5 ¼ inches (4.40 meters) in his outdoor collegiate debut.
Among the six entries that competed on the track for the Raiders were
Travis Wilk winning the 400-meter hurdles in 56.83 seconds,
Parker Smith making his SU Track & Field debut with a 400-meter dash qualifier of 49.05 seconds and Conrad notching his conference cut in the 110-meter hurdles on a time of 15.37 seconds.
Shippensburg will travel next weekend to Lynchburg for the two-day Dr. Jack M. Toms Invitational.
