SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's track & field team started the outdoor season Saturday with competition at home, as it hosted the second annual Keystone Challenge at Seth Grove Stadium.
 
Shippensburg recorded 10 performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships qualifying standards in their respective events and three Raiders took home victories: Alyssa Wert in the 200 meters, Ashley Laukus in the high jump and Lauren Bellows in the hammer.
 
Wert and Emily Calamia each picked up PSAC qualifiers in both the 200 and 400. The duo was separated by just .02 seconds in the 200 (25.51 and 25.53) and by just .46 seconds in the 400 (57.49 and 57.95).
 
Also on the track, Madison Malcolm was the runner-up in the 400-meter hurdles with a PSAC cut of 1:04.48.
 
Laukus had an impressive clearance of 5 feet, 5 inches (1.65m) in the high jump that is just a quarter-inch off her outdoor PR that resulted in a sixth-place finish at last year's conference meet.
 
Riyah Whigham was the runner-up in the triple jump with a top clearance of 38 feet, 4 ¾ inches (11.70 meters) while Carissa Bender notched her PSAC cut in the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet, 1 ¾ inches (3.40 meters).
 
Bellows' victorious hammer throw traveled 154 feet, 1 inch (46.97 meters). Makayla Decker notched a PSAC qualifier in the discus with a third-place throw of 127 feet, 2 inches (38.77 meters).
 
Shippensburg hits the road next weekend when it travels to Lynchburg for the two-day Dr. Jack M. Toms Invitational.
