SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University sophomore shortstop
Evan Shoffler was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Baseball Co-Athlete of the Week on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Â
In the four-game weekend series against Lock Haven, Shoffler hit .688 (11-for-16) out of the leadoff spot. He reached base in 14 of his 19 plate appearances (seven singles, four extra-base hits, two walks, a hit-by-pitch), which equates to a .737 on-base percentage and a 1.125 slugging percentage (1.862 OPS).
Â
Shoffler also went 4-for-4 on stolen base attempts, delivered seven RBIs and scored 10 runs.
Â
In a Saturday sweep, Shoffler set the tone with seven runs and eight hits – highlighted by a go-ahead two-run single during the Raiders' comeback victory in Game 2. On Sunday at Lock Haven, Shoffler got on base five times; he was 3-for-6 with a two-run double, two walks, two stolen bases and three runs scored.
Â
Shoffler has started all 18 games this season and is batting .435 with 10 extra-base hits and 17 RBIs.
Â
It is the third weekly Athlete of the Week honor this season for the Raiders after having not received one in each of the last two seasons (dating back to Austin Baal on May 8, 2023).
Â
For Shoffler, it is his second career honor – he was previously recognized Feb. 17. Senior
AJ Wenrich earned the award last week.
Â
Shoffler shares this week's East Athlete of the Week award with West Chester's Caleb Strawhecker, who hit three home runs and had eight RBIs in a mid-week victory over Division I opponent Saint Joseph's.
