SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University baseball team scored 32 runs Saturday in a resounding doubleheader sweep of Lock Haven in nonleague action at a windy Fairchild Field.
Â
Shippensburg (12-4) defeated Lock Haven (2-12) 22-6 in Game 1, followed by a 10-3 SU victory in Game 2.
Â
Freshman
Lucas Ream led off the scoring in Game 1 with first inning grand slam and the offensive fireworks continued from there.
Â
Sophomore shortstop
Evan Shoffler set the tone for the offense out of the leadoff spot, totaling eight hits (.800 average) – highlighted by a go-ahead two-run single during the Raiders' comeback victory in Game 2 – and seven runs scored.

Game 1: Shippensburg 22, Lock Haven 6
Â
The Raiders piled up 18 hits and 12 walks on their way to a season-high 22 runs in Saturday's opener.
Â
Shippensburg scored at least three runs in all six of their turns at the dish, putting up four runs in four separate frames.
Â
The Raider bats went deep three times in Game 1. Following Ream's first inning slam,
Thomas Cano-Piszel hammered a two-run shot over the 400-foot sign in straightaway center during a three-run second, and Shoffler launched a two-run shot during a four-run Raider fifth.
Â
Shoffler totaled a career-high five runs scored on four hits, including a double and a homer, and drove in three.
Â
Ream and Cano-Piszel drove in a career-high four runs.
Â
Senior
Mike Heckman drew four walks and registered a career-high four runs scored.
Â
Sophomore
Kyle Ausgotharp went 2-for-2 and matched his career-high with three RBIs off the Raider bench.
Â
Junior
Conner Barto started on the mound for the Raiders in Game 1 and earned the victory. The right-hander surrendered three runs on six hits and fanned three in five innings of work. Senior
Franklin Muendel (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) fired a scoreless inning of relief.
Â
Game 2: Shippensburg 10, Lock Haven 3
Â
The Raiders trailed 3-1 entering the bottom of the fifth inning before erupting for nine runs in their final two at-bats to post a lopsided victory.
Â
Shippensburg's only run through the first four innings came in the bottom of the third with a leadoff triple by Shoffler and an RBI-single up the middle two pitches later by freshman
Caden Lloyd.
Â
In the dramatic bottom of the fifth, SU loaded the bases with nobody out. After a strikeout, redshirt-junior
Tony Falvo worked a bases-loaded walk to make it a one-run game. An attempted squeeze play then went for naught, giving the Bald Eagles a chance to escape the inning with the lead.
Â
In his 10th plate appearance of the day, Shoffler delivered his eighth hit – a two-run single to left field that gave the Raiders a 4-3 lead. Coach Jones then initiated a brief conference with the next batter – Lloyd – who promptly smacked the next pitch onto the hill in right field for a three-run homer that made it 7-3.
Â
Shippensburg added some insurance in the sixth with a two-run blast from Ausgotharp and an RBI triple from junior
Jake Pope.
Â
Freshman
Jonah Mayer got the win on the mound after limiting the Bald Eagles to three runs (two earned) and striking out four over five innings.
Â
Sophomore
Jacob Dennis and senior
Jack Robinson each pitched a scoreless inning of relief.
Â
Lock Haven starter Andrew Kramer did well to keep the Raider offense at bay until the fifth. He was charged with seven runs (two earned) and struck out six over five frames.
