SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University lacrosse team outscored visiting Bloomsburg 9-1 in the second quarter on Wednesday to open Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division play with a 19-10 victory over the Huskies in action at sunny, warm and wet Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (4-2, 1-0 PSAC East) and Bloomsburg (1-4, 0-1) were tied 3-3 after a first quarter in which the Raiders committed eight turnovers and converted just one of six clear attempts.

SU flipped the script in the second quarter, scoring on nine of their 11 shots on goal. The Raiders bagged six goals in the opening six minutes to begin tilting the match in their favor. By halftime, the score was 12-4.

The Huskies mounted a third-quarter charge, scoring four straight goals to get within 14-9, but it was as close as the visitors would come.

Ten different Raiders found the back of the net, with Brynn Hauck leading the way by matching her career high of five goals. It is the second time in the last three games (dating back to last Wednesday's win at Lock Haven) in which Hauck has scored five goals.

Shannon Wood entered Saturday without a hat trick in 52 career games. By the end of Wednesday, Wood had recorded a hat trick in back-to-back games. Wood followed up a career-high four goals at Frostburg State with three against the Huskies to go along with an assist.

Abby Schwartz-Mitchell delivered a hat trick in her first career start; she had totaled just two goals through her first three games as a collegian. Maddie Phommachanh scored twice to go along with three groundballs and a pair of draw controls.

Ali Pioli and Alexa Bailey each had three-point games (one goal, two assists). Pioli keyed SU's 17-14 edge in the circle by recording a career-high nine draw controls to go along with three groundballs and a pair of caused turnovers.

Grace DeMarzio once again brought it from the back lines with four draw controls of her own to accompany three groundballs and two caused turnovers.

Shawn Coombs matched DeMarzio with three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Hanna Woolf and Emily Lapinsky combined for five groundballs.

Izzy Sawicki made eight saves to record the win in goal. Sawicki was especially key in the first quarter, making four stops and denying the Huskies on three free-position attempts. Leah Cramer played the final 15 minutes and stopped three of the four shots she faced.

Others on the scoresheet for the Raiders included Olivia Glinski and Erin Reedy delivering a goal and an assist each. It was Reedy's first career goal.

Lexi Koz and Juliana Primrose also found the back of the net, while Aubrey Bailey had an assist. It was also the first career goal for Primrose.

All 25 Raiders in uniform for Wednesday's game saw the field.

Bloomsburg got four goals from Delaney Fox, while Reiley Knize added team highs of five draw controls and four groundballs.

Wednesday marked Shippensburg's second consecutive win over Bloomsburg in the overall series after a string of seven straight losses.

It was SU's largest margin of victory over the Huskies in 31 years, dating back to a 14-5 win on April 19, 1995.

Shippensburg travels to No. 17 Kutztown on Saturday for a noon matchup with the Golden Bears.
