SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University senior outfielder
AJ Wenrich has been recognized as the Hitter of the Week in the Atlantic Region by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Wednesday.
Â
Wenrich terrorized Lincoln (Pa.) pitching this past weekend, posting an .800 batting average, an .857 on base percentage and a 1.700 slugging percentage during a four-game series sweep.
Â
During Saturday's doubleheader, Wenrich went 5-for-6 with a home run, two doubles, a triple, seven RBIs, two walks and four runs scored. He was a single shy of a cycle in Game 1, going 3-for-3 with three of the extra-base hits and all seven of his RBIs.
Â
He totaled eight hits, nine RBI, seven runs scored and 17 total bases in 14 total plate appearances.
Â
It is the second honor this week for Wenrich, who has already garnered Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division Baseball Athlete of the Week.
Â
It is the first time Wenrich has ever won either award. He is the second Raider to be named NCBWA Atlantic Region Hitter of the Week this season after
Evan Shoffler won the award back on Feb. 18.
