SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team swept its non-conference doubleheader against Pitt-Johnstown, defeating the Mountain Cats by scores of 7-0 and 4-1 on a sunny afternoon at Robb Field.

Shippensburg (7-3) cranked out 20 hits, plating 11 runs on the day and drawing 11 walks. Pitt-Johnstown (3-4) recorded seven hits.
Â
Caitlyn Martell led the SU offense with five hits, totaling two RBIs.
Emilee Sullivan hit a team best .571 on the day with four hits – she finished the day 4-for-7 with four singles, an RBI and a walk.

Gianna Cimino singled three times, scored a run, and drew a walk.
Brie Wilmot and
Morgan Koehler each added two hits. Wilmot totaled two RBIs off a triple and a single. Koehler drove in three runs with a triple and a double.

Dani Hayward and
Mikayla Fontana got the wins in the circle for the Raiders. Hayward struck out a season-best eight batters and only allowed three hits. Fontana earned her first career win as a Raider, striking out a career-best four batters.

Shippensburg is back in action on Saturday at the PSAC/MEC Crossover Tournament. It will face Charleston at 11 a.m. before taking on West Liberty at 1 p.m.

Game 1: SHIP 7, PITT-JOHNSTOWN 0

The Raiders got on the board in the bottom of the first after an RBI single from Wilmot. Later in the inning, with the bases loaded off a Mountain Cat error, Sullivan drew a walk to make it 2-0.

The Mountain Cats saw two of their three hits in the top of the second but were unable to score.
Â
In the third, with two Raiders on base, Koehler recorded her first collegiate hit – a triple to clear the bases and double the SU lead to 4-0. Martell then scored Koehler with an RBI single to put Shippensburg up by five.

The Raiders had the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth off a single from Sullivan and two walks but the lead remained at five.

SU scored its final two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Wilmot and Cimino drew walks to open the inning. A Mountain Cat error scored Cimino and Hayward delivered an RBI single to make it 7-0.

UPJ had two runners on in the top of the seventh, but a Hayward strikeout and the Raider defense ended the game.

Hayward kept the Mountain Cats at two hits until the top of the seventh, with the only two before that coming in the second inning. This marks Hayward's third career shutout and first of the season.

Martell went 3-for-5 and recorded an RBI. Sullivan went 2-for-4, collecting an RBI and drew a walk. The Raiders totaled nine hits, drawing 11 walks.

Game 2: SHIP 4, PITT-JOHNSTOWN 1

Pitt-Johnstown recorded its lone run of the day in the top of the first inning after an RBI single to get the early lead.

Mya Parkinson struck out five batters in the first and second inning, tying her career best that was set on Saturday against Pace.

Koehler tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom of the second. Martell followed with an RBI single to overtake the lead at 2-1.

The Raiders did not score another run until the bottom of the fifth. Cimino started the rally with a single that was followed with a double from
Sarah Sabocsik. Wilmot hit a triple to score Sabocsik and make the score, 3-1.
Rilee Ehrlacher drove in a run off a sacrifice fly to score the Raiders final run of the day, 4-1.

Fontana took over the pitching duties in the fourth inning, striking out a career-high four batters and earning her first win in the circle as a Raider. Parkinson delivered a career-high six strikeouts in three innings.

Cimino, Martell and Sullivan each delivered two hits for the Raiders.
