RECAP: Men’s Basketball tripped up Wednesday night at Millersville

SU falls 78-60; Figueroa posts double-double (10 points, 10 rebounds)

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team was not able to keep up with a hot-shooting Millersville squad on Wednesday night, as it dropped a 78-60 decision to the homestanding Marauders in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Pucillo Gymnasium.

Shippensburg (11-11, 6-9 PSAC) fell behind 23-8 in the first 11 minutes and could not get its deficit below double digits the rest of the way.

Denzel Figueroa was one of three Raiders who posted a team-high 10 points; he also grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season and the third of his career.

Michael Dickson came within a rebound of a double-double, equaling his career high with nine boards to go along with 10 points. Jaydon Smith finished with 10 points and two blocks, while Markus Frank was held to a season-low nine points.

Millersville (15-7, 10-5) led wire-to-wire and got standout performances from its signature players. Day Waters had a game-high 25 points on 11-of-19 shooting, while Saraj Ali totaled 16 points, eight rebounds and two blocks. The Marauders shot 52 percent from the field in the first half and achieved 23 points off Raider turnovers.

SU shot just 37.3 percent from the field, its third-lowest output of the season, two days after shooting a season-low 32.8 percent at Shepherd. The Raiders finished with only four assists and committed 15 turnovers – their most since the previous meeting with the Marauders on Jan. 13.

Wednesday's game marked the end of a stretch of four games in the last seven days for the Raiders, with the last two coming on the road.

Shippensburg hosts West Chester at 3 p.m. Saturday at Heiges Field House.
