RECAP: Baseball drops pair at Slippery Rock to split weekend series

Raiders fall 7-5 and 11-5; Cano-Piszel delivers four hits

The Shippensburg University baseball team dropped both ends of a Saturday doubleheader at Slippery Rock, falling to The Rock by scores of 7-5 and 11-5 in action at sunny Jack Critchfield Park.
 
Shippensburg (6-4) led 5-4 through four innings in Game 1 and was tied with Slippery Rock (5-2) 5-5 through four innings in Game 2, but the hosts scored three runs in the fifth inning of the opener and five runs in the fifth inning of the nightcap to pull away in each contest.
 
Sophomore Thomas Cano-Piszel once again had a solid day at the plate, going 4-for-7 with an RBI, a walk and a stolen base. In the four-game series, Cano-Piszel was 8-for-15 (.533) with two extra-base hits, three RBIs and two runs scored.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Brady Harbach had three hits and three RBIs on the day, including a two-run single in the first inning of Game 2. Junior Mason Morris reached base four times, drawing three walks in addition to a single.
 
Junior Ty Sherman had three RBIs in Game 1, including a two-run ground-rule double.
 
Freshman Jonah Mayer got the start on the mound in Game 1 and pitched 3.1 innings. Redshirt-sophomore Kaleb Maksimik got the Game 2 start and threw three innings.
 
The Raiders yielded eight unearned runs on the day – four in each game.
 
The Rock did not record an extra-base hit in Game 1 but went off for eight in the nightcap, including six doubles.
 
Shippensburg will host Lincoln at 1 p.m. Saturday at Fairchild Field.
