RECAP: Men’s Basketball drops road clash to hot-shooting East Stroudsburg, 76-64

Jaydon Smith finishes with 15 points, Gabriel Romero-Sanz nets a career-best 12

The Shippensburg University men's basketball team was unable to get over the hump against a hot-shooting East Stroudsburg squad during a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division setback Saturday at ESU's Koehler Fieldhouse, 76-64.

Shippensburg (12-13, 7-11 PSAC) never trailed East Stroudsburg (18-7, 12-6) by more than 10 points in the opening half and was within five, 47-42, with less than fifteen minutes remaining in regulation, but struggled to stop a Warrior squad down the stretch that shot 58.0 percent (29-of-50) overall from the field and 56.3 percent from three-point range.

Jaydon Smith led four Raiders in double figures with 15 points, making 3-of-7 field goals from beyond the arc (42.9 percent).

Gabriel Romero-Sanz netted a career-high 12 points on 5-of-7 shooting (71 percent) in a season-high 23 minutes. He grabbed four boards and recorded a career-best three steals defensively.

Timmy Conner finished with 12 points and two steals, while Michael Dickson tallied 11 points and four assists. Jackson Boone contributed a career-high four assists off the SU bench.

Adrian Brito led the Warriors with 19 points. The ESU forward converted 7-of-8 from the field (87.5 percent) and 2-of-2 from three (100 percent). He also chipped in with six rebounds and four assists.

ESU's shooting percentage Saturday was the second highest allowed by the Raiders this season, only topped by the 58.2 percent shot by Shepherd in a loss Feb. 2.

The Warriors also shot 69.2 percent from the foul line (9-for-13) – a vast improvement from the 41.7 percent they shot in the previous meeting, an 82-80 Shippensburg win back on Jan. 17.

Shippensburg will get an opportunity to rest thanks to a midweek bye and will return to action next Saturday when it hosts Mansfield for Senior Day at 3 p.m. at Heiges Field House.
