2026-27 SCHEDULE
2026-27 ROSTER

The Shippensburg University wrestling team begins its 2026-27 season Saturday when it travels to Alvernia to take part in the Tonee Ellis Memorial Invitational.

That will be followed by the team's Heiges Field House debut, as they host Saint Vincent for their dual meet opener Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. The Raiders will host their first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet one week later against East Stroudsburg on Wednesday, Nov. 18 at 7 p.m.

The 2026-27 season also marks the return of the Shippensburg Duals, with the Raiders hosting Bridgeport, Felician, Frostburg State and Fairmont St. at Heiges Field House on Saturday, Dec. 5 beginning at 10 a.m.

In a sport like wrestling it can be really taxing mentally and physically. But since we are such a tight team and we mesh well, everyone has a good, positive attitude. We wouldn't call it a grind, we are actually enjoying it so far and that's a good thing
Mike Trainor • (Gr., Cochranville, Pa.)
For a lot of us it's about confidence. We have a lot of younger guys and they need to get a couple of matches under their belt. College matches are a different world. Even me too, I am moving up a couple of weights. Getting those matches under our belt will raise our confidence levels, and that is what the early part of the season is about.

Wrestling Freshman Class

The class breakdown of the 2026 roster is listed below. It is using the “traditional” eligibility model.

Three of this year's seniors will have the opportunity to return next year as “fifth-years.”

Shippensburg is under the direction of head coach Seth Bloomquist, who enters his 18th season as SU's head wrestling coach and his 23rd season overall with the program.

In 17 years as Shippensburg head coach, Bloomquist has instructed 21 NCAA national qualifiers, six NCAA All-Americans, 49 regional place-winners and 23 PSAC Championships place-winners.

SU's most recent national qualifier, Nick Delp, joins Bloomquist's staff as an assistant coach for the 2026-27 season. Delp wrestled to an undefeated regular season record as SU's 165-pound starter in 2025-26. He placed second at the 2026 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Championships, becoming SU's first national qualifier in three years (2022-23).

We are young, so there is going to be a lot of room for growth. But I feel like we are going to progress really well as a team. We want to dial in on feeling good for our weight class and just having fun -- letting loose and scoring points, then coming back into the room and fixing what we have trouble with. We have a great staff and we are going to be able to do a good job at fixing what our lapses are.

NOTES FOR 2026-27:

• Mike Trainor enters the 2026-27 season nationally ranked, coming in at No. 15 in the 157-pound weight class in the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Preseason Rankings. He is ranked No. 2 in Super Region 1, behind only Richie DeFulvio of Millersville. Trainor placed sixth at 149 pounds during the Super Region 1 Championships last season.

• Other regionally-ranked Raiders include Kyle von Schmidt (No. 4 at 133 pounds), Diesel Koser (No. 4 at 197) and Owen Koch (No. 5 at 285). Koser placed fifth at 197 at the 2026 Super Region 1 Championships, while von Schmidt took sixth at 133. Koch last wrestled in 2024-25 in the 184-pound weight class.

• Shippensburg is ranked No. 8 overall in Super Region 1 heading into the 2026-27 season. The Raiders return four starters from the 2025-26 season: Colin Marano (125), von Schmidt (133), Trainor (149) and Koser (197).

• The 2027 NCAA Division II Super Region 1 Wrestling Championships are set for Feb. 27 at Millersville. The top three place-winners in each weight class will qualify for the NCAA Championships Mar. 12-13 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

I feel like we are trying to make a statement in these early matches and really show people we are here to wrestle. I am really excited to watch the rest of the team wrestle and see how they perform.
