SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team was unable to get past No. 4 East Stroudsburg in its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) opener on Saturday, dropping a 1-0 contest to the Warriors in action at sunny Robb Sports Complex.

Shippensburg (5-2, 0-1 PSAC) managed just two shots on goal. SU finished with a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners, recording six of those in the fourth quarter, but could not find the back of the cage.

East Stroudsburg (7-1, 1-0) scored the lone goal of the match midway through the third quarter off a penalty corner when captain Elaiana Rivera-Lagalla slammed home an insert from Megan Rafter.

Freshman goalkeeper Liv Schweighart made six saves in the contest; she also patrolled the crease well on a penalty stroke attempt that was ultimately sent wide.

Shippensburg returns to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday when it hosts nationally-ranked and undefeated Slippery Rock at Robb Sports Complex.
