SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team battled Lock Haven to a 0-0 draw on a sunny Saturday afternoon at David See Field.
The Raiders (2-4-4) and Bald Eagles (2-3-6) played a tightly contested first half, with neither team able to find the back of the net. Shippensburg goalkeeper
Jack McCann made two saves in the opening half to keep the match scoreless.
The match became increasingly physical and competitive after halftime, with both teams battling for possession and scoring opportunities. Seven yellow cards were issued throughout the contest, including four to the Raiders and three to the Bald Eagles.
Shippensburg came close to ending the stalemate on two separate occasions. First, when
Ethan Omondi nearly found the top-left corner with a curling shot in the opening ten minutes, but his attempt flew just over the bar.
They also came to a possible penalty kick in the 86th minute.
Nate Herb headed an
Anthony Weekley long throw-in in the direction of
Conway Brown II in front of goal. Brown was knocked down in the box on a late challenge, but the referee ruled that the Lock Haven defender got enough of the ball and awarded Lock Haven a goal kick.
The Bald Eagles finished with a 14-8 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks, but McCann kept the visitors off the scoreboard with four saves to record the shutout in his first start of the season. Lock Haven goalkeeper Ethan Beck also made four saves.
Julius Dogan led the Raiders with two shots, while
Coy Rush and
John Trigg each recorded a shot on goal.
Shippensburg is back on its home turf Wednesday, Oct. 7 against Shepherd University at 7 p.m.
