SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team fell to Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division front-runners Lock Haven in league action Thursday night at Heiges Field House, 81-50.
 
Shippensburg (2-17, 1-11 PSAC) battled first-place Lock Haven (13-5, 9-3), shooting 42.9 percent from the field (12-of-28) in the opening 20 minutes to keep the margin close for much of the first half.
 
A three-point jumper from McKenzie Thomas made it a four-point margin, 15-11, with 2:25 remaining in the first quarter, and the deficit was at seven, 20-13 after one quarter of play.
 
Lock Haven's Lacy Kriebel knocked down a three to start the second quarter to stretch the margin to ten, 23-13, and the Bald Eagle lead remained double digits for the remaining duration of the game.
 
The Bald Eagles shot a white-hot 56.6 percent from the field (30-of-53) overall and 60.9 percent (14-of-23) in the first half.
 
Lock Haven, the top rebounding team in Division II, out-rebounded the Raiders by a 33-to-23 margin.
 
Shippensburg's Abbie Johns scored a team-best 13 points, including a 2-of-6 night from beyond the arch (33.3 percent).
 
Michelle Olak improved her streak of double-digit scoring outings to six straight games, finishing with 10 points on 5-of-12 shooting (40 percent). Melana Eyer contributed seven points and a team-high five assists, while Makayla Foddrell logged six points, three assists and two steals.
 
All nine Raiders to see action Thursday scored, including the first collegiate point from Zaria Spann.
 
Madeline Evans registered a double-double for the Bald Eagles, netting a game-high 19 points to go along with 13 boards. Jenadia Jordan scored 16 points and dished out seven assists.
 
The Raiders return to action Saturday at home against Bloomsburg. Tip off from Heiges Field House is set for 1 p.m.
