SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) dual meet to No. 4 Gannon in its home opener Friday evening at Heiges Field House, 39-3.
Â
Shippensburg (3-7, 0-3 PSAC) scored its lone victory at 149 pounds, where
Mike Trainor (Cochranville, Pa./Octorara) earned a hard fought 8-5 decision over Gannon (6-1, 1-0) counterpart TJ Allison.
Â
Allison struck first, scoring a single leg on the edge of the mat early in the second period. Trainor later fought off an aggressive shot from Allison and successfully countered it into a takedown with 30 seconds left in the frame.
Â
Trainor – at the time clinging to a 5-4 lead – sealed the victory with a second takedown late in the third period.
Â
Gannon sent out a lineup that featured six nationally-ranked wrestlers, four of which earned tech falls.
Â
Diesel Koser (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) matched up with No. 11-ranked Cleveland State transfer Joe Lyons at 197 pounds. Koser made the veteran and former MAC Championships place-winner tough out an 8-1 decision.
Â
The Raiders return to action next week at the Seton Hill Duals with matches against the host Griffins and Wheeling Tuesday at 5 p.m.
