SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's soccer team dropped a nonconference tilt against visiting Jefferson Wednesday evening at David See Field, 3-0.
In a tale of two halves, Shippensburg (1-1) battled Jefferson (2-1) to an even first 45 minutes, matching the Rams in first-half shots (four), scoring chances and fouls committed (six). The second half was a different story, with the visitors scoring three times in the span of a half hour en route to victory.
Shippensburg's best opportunity to take a lead inside the first 45 minutes came thanks to a deft backheel from senior forward Ethan Paulukow that undid the Jefferson defense and sent junior defender Evan Brandt in on goal. Brandt ripped a low, driven shot to the near post, but was denied due to a diving save from Jefferson goalie Lucca Bellina.
Jefferson attacker Diego Guzman opened the scoring just five minutes following the intermission. Ram forwards Parker Smith and Zayd Ahktar also contributed goals.
Paulukow led Shippensburg with three shots. Redshirt-junior Jack McCann got the start in goal for Shippensburg and recorded four saves.
The final score matched the score from when the two teams met last season, a 3-0 Jefferson home victory on Sept. 11, 2024.
Shippensburg returns to action Wednesday, Sept. 17 with a nonconference road match at Lock Haven. Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
