SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Shippensburg University head cross country coach Steve Spence has confirmed the recruitment of four student-athletes who will be a part of the men's cross country team in the 2025 season.
The incoming class features three student-athletes from Pennsylvania and one from Virginia. Three of the recruits are first-year collegians and one is a graduate transfer.
SU Cross Country reports for the preseason this Sunday.
The recruits are as follows (in alphabetical order):
• Brayden Boyd
Graduate
Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area (Robert Morris)
2024 (R-Junior): Competed in five meets for Robert Morris…represented the Colonials in competition at the Horizon League Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships…recorded his collegiate-best 10K time of 35:22.5 at the regional meet…delivered his season-best 8K time of 26:39.3 at the league championship meet.
2023 (R-Sophomore): Competed in five meets for Robert Morris…represented the Colonials in competition at the Horizon League Championships…posted a collegiate-best 8K time of 26:13.3 at the Horizon League Championships.
2022 (Sophomore): Redshirt season in cross country at Robert Morris.
2021 (Freshman): Competed in five meets for Robert Morris…represented the Colonials in competition at the Horizon League Championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Region Championships.
Chambersburg Area Senior High School: Totaled multiple varsity letters spanning track & field and cross country for the Trojans under coaches John Ambrosio and Bob Walker…was a two-time PIAA 'AAA' State Championships qualifier…was a PIAA District 3 'AAA' Championships medalist in cross country as a junior…finished as a three-time All-Mid-Penn Conference All Star.
About Boyd: Full name is Brayden Lee Boyd...is the son of Ryan and Amber Boyd.

Middleburg, Pa./Midd-West
Midd-West High School: Totaled eight varsity letters spanning track & field and cross country for the Mustangs under coaches Jen Hummel, Jason Gemberling and Tom Williams…was a three-time national qualifier…won a PIAA 'AA' state title with his school's 4x800-meter relay as a junior…finished as a four-time PIAA 'AA' State Track & Field Championships medalist…claimed three PIAA District 4 titles in track & field, including victories in the 'AAA' 800 meters and 4x800-meter relay as a senior and in the 'AA' 4x800-meter relay as a junior…qualified for the PIAA state championships in the 800 meters as a junior and senior…earned a PIAA 'AA' State Cross Country Championships medal in cross country with a fifth-place finish as a senior…posted a 30th-place finish at the PIAA 'AA' State Cross Country Championships as a junior…achieved a pair of District 4 cross country medals with a second-place finish as a senior and a ninth-place finish as a junior…earned All-Pennsylvania Heartland Athletic Conference (PHAC) honors in cross country and in track & field for the 1,600 meters…broke six school records…compiled PRs of 1:54 at 800 meters, 4:20 at 1,600 meters, and 16:19 over 5,000 meters of cross country…maintained a 4.0 GPA…selected to the Distinguished Honor Roll in all four years of high school…named the salutatorian of his graduating class.

Luray High School: Totaled 12 varsity letters spanning track & field and cross country for the Bulldogs under coach Steve Printz…won two state championships in Virginia: the 800 meters as a junior and the 1,600 meters as a sophomore…broke his father's 39-year-old Virginia high school record in the 800 meters en route to his title in 1:55.82…set a combined Virginia High School League (VHSL) Class 1/2 state record in the indoor 1,000 meters…finished as an 18-time All-State performer, including three times in the outdoor 800 meters and the indoor 1,000 meters…amassed All-State efforts over eight different distances or disciplines (cross country, indoor 1,000 meters, indoor 1,600 meters, indoor 3,200 meters, indoor 4x400-meter relay, outdoor 800 meters, outdoor 1,600 meters, outdoor 4x400-meter relay)…was the VHSL Class '2A' runner-up in the outdoor 800 meters as a freshman…completed his prep career as a two-time Region B Cross Country Runner of the Year and a two-time Bull Run District Cross Country Runner of the Year, achieving those honors as a junior and senior…compiled PRs of 1:55 at 800 meters, 4:21 at 1,600 meters and 15:56 over 5,000 meters of cross country…earned a one-year degree from Laurel Ridge Community College while in high school…was a member of the honor roll who graduated with a 4.22 GPA.
About Johnson: Full name is David Keith Johnson…is the son of Paul and Wendy Johnson…father Paul competed in track & field at the NCAA Division I and NCAA Division III level and became a coach who has mentored multiple NCAA Division III All-Americans.
• Daniel Naylor
York, Pa./Red Lion Area
Red Lion Area High School: Totaled eight varsity letters spanning track & field and cross country for the Lions under coaches Justin Immel and Steve Hare…twice named the York-Adams Interscholastic Athletic Association (YAIAA) Runner of the Year…won back-to-back YAIAA Cross Country Championships as a junior and senior…compiled PRs of 1:58 at 800 meters, 4:15 at 1,600 meters, 9:30 at 3,200 meters, and 15:54 over 5,000 meters of cross country…also competed at the varsity level in basketball…was a member of the Distinguished Honor Roll and the Executive Council…graduated magna cum laude.
