Shippensburg University Baseball alumnus Gabe Mosser '18 is enjoying some time at home this summer after a lengthy minor league career that has included stops in Fort Wayne, Ind; Lake Elsinore, Cal., San Antonio, Tex.; and El Paso, Tex.
The Parkland High School graduate and Lehigh Valley native has not been taking any time off, instead he is toeing the rubber at Coca Cola Stadium in Allentown, pitching for his hometown IronPigs.
Mosser signed as a minor league free agent with the Phillies this past offseason, and the former Raider standout has racked up 66 strikeouts and walked just 26 in 59.2 innings between Double-A and Triple-A this season.
He enjoyed a mid-May stretch that featured back-to-back Double-A starts of at least six innings and one earned run. That included a May 16 outing where he held the New Hampshire Fisher Cats to one run on just three hits over 6.2 innings, striking out six.
He has since been promoted to Triple-A Lehigh Valley, where he has made four starts. His best outing for the 'Pigs came on June 12 at home against the Worcester Red Sox. He held the WooSox to two runs on only three hits, striking out three and earning the win.
Mosser's SU career included a pair of all-conference and all-region awards. Over his final two seasons as a Raider, Mosser went 16-9 with a 2.94 ERA – striking out 179 batters in 153 innings while yielding just five home runs against. He totaled 262 strikeouts over 238 collegiate innings.
