PSAC T&F MEN’s DAY 1: Quinan defends 10K title to lead five opening-day scorers

Quinan wins 10K by half a second; Gonder, Greggo post Top 5 finishes in respective events

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior Garrett Quinan successfully defended his league title in the 10,000 meters Thursday night to lead three Raider scorers in the event as the Shippensburg University men's outdoor track & field team got the weekend started at the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Outdoor Track & Field Championships being conducted at Slippery Rock's Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

Quinan ran a smart race to defend his title, beginning his separation from the front pack with about three laps to go and taking the lead over the final 800 meters. His kick was enough to hold off a strong push from Cal's Jon Thrush, and his time of 31:06.18 was enough for the win by half a second. Both Quinan and Thrush posted a sub-60 second split on the final lap.

Aiden Gonder finishes his PSAC 10K career as a three-time Top 4 finisher. Gonder ran fourth Thursday night, delivering a time of 31:10.02. The run accompanies a third-place finish last year and a fourth-place finish in 2022.

Kevin Wagner also finished up as a three-time scorer in the 10K. His well-paced run of 31:27.29 was enough for seventh place; Wagner also finished seventh last year and was eighth in 2023.

Ben Devine finished 11th in the 10K with a new PR of 31:47.32.

Gian Greggo had a phenomenal day in the hammer, as all five of his successful throws on the day exceeded his previous personal best (163 feet, 9 inches; 49.92 meters). He set the tone on his first attempt, unleashing a huge throw of 172 feet (52.43 meters).

His third throw traveled 180 feet, 9 inches (55.10 meters), and his first throw of the finals moved up to 182 feet (55.47 meters). Greggo's fifth attempt was his best – 183 feet, 10 inches (56.05 meters) – and resulted in his fifth-place finish.

It was the first scoring performance in the hammer for Greggo, who fouled all three of his attempts at last year's conference meet. He now ranks ninth all-time at SU in the hammer throw.

Ridge Crispino also claimed a spot on the hammer throw awards stand, placing seventh with a mark of 166 feet, 2 inches (50.66 meters). It is the second consecutive year that he finished in seventh place.

Through the first half of the decathlon, Mason Boyd sits in third place with 3,672 points, while sophomore Noah Bankert is 12th (3,006 points) and freshman Terrence Steele is 14th (2,861 points). Boyd made his biggest impact in the bookend events of the day, scoring 850 points in the 100 (11.05 seconds) and 839 points in the 400 (49.48 seconds).

Each of the Top 7 competitors in the decathlon have already exceeded 3,500 points, with Lock Haven's Matt Muthler (3,902 points) currently in the lead.

With its five scoring performances, Shippensburg currently holds the early lead in the team standings with 23 points.

The meet resumes at 10 a.m. Friday.
