PUEBLO, Col. – Shippensburg University's
Mason Boyd completed his eleventh and final collegiate decathlon Friday on a sunny, 88-degree day at the 2025 NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships contested at the Colorado State University Pueblo ThunderBowl.
Â
Boyd completed the decathlon in 14th place with a score of 5,886 points.
Â
His chance at an All-America finish was extinguished just a few seconds into the start of his Friday competition, as Boyd made contact with a hurdle early in the 110-meter race. Despite getting up and finishing, the run resulted in a disqualification for making hand contact with the hurdle as he fell – meaning zero points for the event.
Â
Boyd gathered himself and kept competing. In the discus, Boyd picked up 578 points with a throw of 117 feet, 2 inches (35.71 meters). He continued to battle and cleared 13 feet, 1 ½ inches (4.00 meters) in the pole vault.
Â
After the two-hour pole vault competition, Boyd moved on to the javelin and gained 426 points on a throw of 127 feet, 6 inches (38.87 meters). He wrapped up with the 1,500 meters, scoring 515 points through a time of 5:07.83.
Â
His setback does not take away from the excellent pace at which he began the meet, as Boyd totaled 3,750 points and multiple season bests on Thursday.
Â
A five-time U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region decathlete, Boyd's personal best score of 6,955 points set two weeks ago is the Shippensburg University school record.
Â
He completes his career as the only man in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) history to be a five-time all-conference decathlete (2025 third place, 2024 champion, 2023 champion, 2022 runner-up, 2021 runner-up).
Â
Boyd's decathlon concludes the 2025 men's outdoor track & field season for the Raiders.
