Donovan Kitchen won the shot put and discus throw Saturday as the Shippensburg University men's outdoor track & field team sent a contingent to Millersville for the annual Metrics meet held at Biemesderfer Stadium.
 
Kitchen made a huge breakthrough in the discus, landing an NCAA provisional qualifier of 172 feet, 5 inches (52.56 meters) that slots him fourth all-time in school history for the event. It is 10 feet farther than his previous personal best that he achieved last week.
 
In the shot, Kitchen won with an outdoor personal best of 51 feet, 10 inches (15.80 meters). His victorious throws were two of the team's five performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) automatic qualifying standards.
 
Ridge Crispino and Colin Daub both landed new PRs in the discus with respective throws of 149 feet, 9 inches (45.65 meters) and 148 feet, 5 inches (45.25 meters). Mason Petropapa threw the javelin 174 feet, 3 inches (53.11 meters).
 
The Millersville Metrics is a scored meet – SU's split squad managed a second-place team finish of 97 points. Ethan Conrad posted third-place finishes in the 110-meter hurdles (16.02 seconds) and the long jump (21 feet, 7 ¼ inches [6.58 meters]) while Owen Shrader took third in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:06.35.
 
Shippensburg's heptathletes will compete Thursday and Friday at Susquehanna, while the full squad will compete Saturday and Sunday at Bucknell.
