QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The Shippensburg University softball team dropped its 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Tournament opener on Wednesday morning to Western Division No. 4 seed IUP, 6-3, at sunny Veterans Park.
Shippensburg (30-19) totaled nine hits, including two home runs, but could not overcome a five-run outburst in the bottom of the fourth inning by IUP (25-18).
Three Raiders had two hits, including junior
Emilee Sullivan – whose solo home in the fourth inning was the first of her collegiate career and gave SU a 2-0 lead at the time. Her first hit of the day was an RBI-single in the second that opened the scoring.
Sophomore
Brie Wilmot and freshman
Gianna Cimino each had two hits – Wilmot's sixth-inning single was the 100th hit of her career.
Senior
Katelyn Minney slammed a solo home run in the top of the seventh after entering as a defensive replacement in the sixth. It was her first home run of the season and the eighth of her career.
Senior
Alicia Ball started in the circle for Shippensburg, pitching 3.2 innings and striking out nine batters. Freshman
Dani Hayward entered in relief, pitching the final 2.1 innings, striking out three and scattering three hits and one run.
IUP capitalized with two outs in the bottom of the fourth for its decisive runs. Jordyn Sylvi blooped a two-run double down the left-field line off Ball, and Reagan Rand followed by blooping a two-run single into left field off Hayward.
Shippensburg will play Seton Hill in an elimination game at 5:30 p.m.
