SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- The Shippensburg University softball team dropped a pair of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division games to Bloomsburg on Wednesday afternoon. The Raiders lost Game 1, 4-3, and Game 2, 12-9, at windy Robb Field.

Shippensburg (24-16, 13-11 PSAC East) totaled 19 hits and 12 runs on the day but could not complete late rallies to get past Bloomsburg (21-13, 11-9). The Huskies used an offensive spark of 25 hits and 16 runs to take the doubleheader and the regular season series, 4-0.

Junior
Caitlyn Martell and sophomore
Brie Wilmot each smacked a team-high four hits through both games, with Wilmot also netting a game-high three RBIs in both games. Her three-run homer accounted for all of SU's runs in Game 1, while her three-run double in Game 2 got the Raiders back within one run at the time. Martell hit a triple and scored two runs in Game 2.

Three home runs accounted for all of the runs scored in the opener, with Bloomsburg hitting two two-run homers and Shippensburg getting Wilmot's three-run blast. Husky outfielder Allie Wenrich knocked a two-run homer in the top of the second inning to open the scoring, and teammate Mia Nemeth hit her own two-run homer one inning later to give Bloomsburg a 4-0 lead.

Shippensburg responded with back-to-back singles from freshman
Dani Hayward and sophomore
Sarah Sabocsik in the bottom of the fourth inning to bring Wilmot to the plate. Wilmot sent a 1-1 pitch straight down center field and over the fence for a three-run shot to bring the Raiders within one run.

SU only recorded one hit in the final three innings as Bloomsburg took the first game 4-3.

Bloomsburg opened the nightcap by scoring six runs in the first inning before recording an out and three more in the third to hold a 9-1 lead over the Raiders. Shippensburg sparked for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth, using three RBI-singles, a bases-loaded hit by pitch, and the base-clearing three run double from Wilmot to get within one run at  9-8.

The Huskies added three more runs back to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings, leading 12-8 before Shippensburg added one final run in the bottom of the seventh for the 12-9 final score.
Maddy Borowski aided the Raiders in the circle in Game 2 with 2.2 innings in relief, as she entered in the first inning. Hayward, who pitched all seven innings in Game 1, pitched the final three innings of Game 2.Â

Shippensburg will visit West Chester at 1 p.m. Saturday for a doubleheader.
