SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's outdoor track & field team delivered a strong showing in its second home meet of the season Wednesday, winning 11 events at the Mid-Week PR Bonanza held at Seth Grove Stadium.
Of SU's 11 victories, seven were on the track and four in the field. The Raiders had 19 performances that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) automatic qualifying standards.
Among sprints,
Gabriel Lewis won the 100 in 10.58 seconds, while
Jeovaughni Daniel was the first-place finisher in the 110-meter hurdles (14.58 seconds) and
Bernard Bell III claimed victory in the 400-meter hurdles (58.45 seconds).
Lewis was .17 seconds off his PR and school record, while Daniel was just .14 seconds off his PR.
Jae Galloway improved his season best in the 100 meters with a third-place time of 10.82 seconds.
Among the mid-distance and distance highlights was
Owen Shrader delivering a breakthrough in his second collegiate 800-meter run, winning the event with a PSAC qualifier of 1:55.26 that ranks sixth in the conference.
Kyle Baker won the 1,500 meters in 4:14.52, while
Brennan Wellock took first place in the 5K with a time of 15:29.70.
A Raider 4x400-meter relay of
Jacob Pittman,
Logan Rodkey, Shrader and
Chase Hensinger took first place with a time of 3:29.69, as Hensinger used a strong close on the anchor leg for the win.
In the field,
Gian Greggo paced four Raiders in the shot put with a victory on a throw of 52 feet, 10 ¼ inches (16.11 meters) that set a new season best.
Donovan Kitchen took third with a throw of 51 feet, 10 ½ inches that set a new outdoor personal best.
Greggo paced the Raiders in the discus as well, placing fourth on a throw of 153 feet, 8 inches (46.84 meters). Kitchen was fifth with a throw of 152 feet, 2 inches while
Colin Daub earned his PSAC qualifier with a PR of 152 feet, 1 inch.
Ridge Crispino won the hammer throw on a top mark of 164 feet.
Joe Ryan picked up his PSAC qualifier in the pole vault with a second-place clearance of 14 feet, 3 ¼ inches.
With the conditions conducive to success in the horizontal jumps, several Raiders took advantage.
Jak Kearney won the long jump with a terrific top mark of 23 feet, 10 inches that moves him up to second on the PSAC leaderboard. Kearney's jump was just one inch off his personal best.
Ethan Conrad landed a new PR of 22 feet, 11 ¾ inches for a PSAC qualifier and the first seven-meter jump of his career.
Michael Kadziela, who won the high jump with a top clearance of 6 feet, 6 ¾ inches (2.00 meters), also debuted in the long jump and notched a PSAC qualifier by landing a mark of 22 feet, 9 ¼ inches (6.94 meters).
Shippensburg returns to action in nine days when it hosts the Paul Kaiser Classic, which is now a two-day meet that begins Friday, April 25 with the hammer throw and the 10K.
