SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University wrestling team battled in a dual meet setback against perennial Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) power Pitt-Johnstown Tuesday at Heiges Field House, 42-6.
 
Shippensburg (5-9, 0-4) earned hard-fought decisions from redshirt-sophomore Mike Trainor and graduate Nick Delp against tough opponents at 149 and 165 pounds.
 
Trainor, the fifth-ranked 149-pounder in Super Region 1, won an 8-6 decision in a potential Super Regional preview against fourth-ranked Chad Ozias of UPJ.
 
Trainor scored the initial takedown against Ozias, but Ozias fought back to even the score at 4-4 after three minutes. Trainor successfully finished a single leg to score a 7-6 advantage entering the final two minutes, and fought off Ozias's offense in the third to earn the win.
 
Delp picked up an 8-2 decision over UPJ's Gavyn Beck at 165.
 
Delp, ranked sixth in Super Region 1, scored on a duck under into a leg sweep in the first period and added an additional takedown in the third, plus a riding-time point to score the 8-2 win.
 
Pitt-Johnstown's (12-2, 5-0) two nationally-ranked wrestlers at 197 and 285, sixth-ranked 197-pounder Dakoda Rodgers and fifth-ranked heavyweight Isaiah Vance earned tech falls, but their Raider opponents made them work for their points.
 
Redshirt-sophomore Diesel Koser lasted 6:38 against Rodgers, while senior Connor Livingston battled Vance for 5:42.
 
Shippensburg is back at home Thursday for a PSAC dual against East Stroudsburg at 7 p.m.
