Kayla Vosburg recorded her 500th career save Wednesday as the Shippensburg University lacrosse team picked up a 16-8 win over Georgian Court in non-conference action at Robb Sports Complex.
Shippensburg (2-1) scored at least three goals in all four quarters and posted a 29-17 advantage in shots on target. The Raiders only committed 13 turnovers for the second straight game; ironically its turnover total ended up being the same as its combined total of green and yellow cards.
Georgian Court (1-3) posted a 15-13 edge in draw controls and had four more groundballs than SU but committed 22 turnovers. The Lions were tied with the Raiders after the first quarter, 3-3, before being outscored 5-1 in the second quarter. The visitors did not get any closer the rest of the way.
Kayla Vosburg made nine saves, making her just the third goalkeeper in school history to record 500 career saves. She joins school-record holder Leslie Peed (699 saves from 1992-95) and Ally Frymoyer (580 saves from 2013-16).
Sara Vosburg wreaked havoc on the opposition for the second straight game. She finished Wednesday with five goals, three assists, three caused turnovers and two groundballs. It is the second straight game she has recorded a career-high three assists, while her second straight five-goal game marked the sixth time in her career she has achieved that feat.
She is now at 112 career goals – which is tied for eighth in school history with Lindsey Kennedy '13 and Cristin Marron '06.
