RECAP: Men’s Swimming concludes 2025 PSAC Championships in sixth place

Raiders break 200-yard medley relay school record in time trials

2/20/2025 9:59:00 PM

YORK, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team finished in sixth place at the 2025 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships, wrapping up the final day of competition at the Graham Aquatic Center with its second record-setting relay in as many days and three individual point scorers.

Junior Carter Hawkes and graduate JC Greenwood competed in the morning and endured the timed finals of the "mile" – the 1,650-yard freestyle – to contribute points toward the team score.

Hawkes, swimming the event for just the second time in college (and also the second time in the last 20 days), delivered a lifetime best of 17:03.52 that featured a 26.92-second final split over his last 50 yards – the fastest final split of any competitor in the field including those who swam at night. The performance results in 13th place overall.

Greenwood finished just behind Hawkes, taking 14th with a time of 17:12.65. He becomes one of a short list of PSAC swimmers who will complete their career as a five-time place-winner in an event – Greenwood won the PSAC title in the event in 2021, placed 16th in 2022, 13th in 2023 and ninth last season.

Senior Nathan VanNatter used two lifetime bests of his own while swimming the 100-yard freestyle. VanNatter swam 46.62 seconds in prelims to qualify for the consolation 'B' final and then took .02 seconds off at night, going 46.60 seconds to place 14th. The performance moved him into ninth place in school history for the event.

Before the final night of competition commenced, SU completed a time trial in the 200-yard medley relay. In Wednesday's finals, the quartet of sophomore Mason Koeth, freshman Kiran George, freshman Josh Einolf, and sophomore Robbie Ferlick came within three-tenths of a second of the 1991 school record set by Brady Stauffer, Jason Gorbar, Steve Meissner and Alon Naor (1:32.39).

Thursday night it was Koeth, VanNatter, Einolf and Ferlick who swam 1:32.16 to break the 34-year old record and make it back-to-back days with new records for the Raiders in time trials after the 200-yard freestyle relay yesterday.

The Raiders ended the meet with the quartet of junior Kevin Noldy, Ferlick, sophomore Connor Ludwig, and VanNatter competing in the 400-yard freestyle relay, touching the wall in 3:07.13 and finishing sixth.

Thursday also marked the final competition for Greenwood, VanNatter, David Johnson and Zaidian Van Orden, who participated in the senior ceremony prior to evening finals.

The Raiders finished with 184 points – just one point shy of its total at last season's conference meet.
