YORK, Pa. – The Shippensburg University men's swimming team maintained its momentum during the second day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships on Tuesday by competing in three individual events and two relays at the Graham Aquatic Center.
Freshman
Josh Einolf grabbed the highest finish for the Raiders on the day with his impressive outing in the 100-yard butterfly. Heading into the meet, Einolf was seeded with a time of 51.31 seconds that he swam at the F&M Invitational back in November. He crushed that time in the morning by going 50.47 seconds to qualify for the consolation 'B' final in 13th place.
After prelims, Einolf moved into third all time among Raiders in the event, trailing only sophomore
Mason Koeth and school record holder Steve Meissner.
In finals, Einolf shined again, dropping nearly a full second to not only improve his place but also win the 'B' final and place ninth overall – touching the wall in 49.61 seconds. His performance was historic, as he became the second Raider ever to break 50 seconds (Meissner's school record is 49.15 seconds in 1991).
The Raiders had one other individual scorer on the night, with senior
David Johnson competing in the 'B' final of the 400-yard IM. Johnson finished 16th overall with his time of 4:15.70.
Tuesday's finals began with the quartet of junior
Kevin Noldy, Koeth, sophomore
Robbie Ferlick, and senior
Nathan VanNatter competing in the 200-yard freestyle relay. Ferlick and VanNatter both turned in 20-second splits to help the Raiders achieve a time of 1:23.83, which placed fourth overall.
The Raiders ended the second day with the 400-yard medley relay; the team of Koeth, freshman
Kiran George, Einolf, and Johnson took home sixth overall with their time of 3:29.06.
Overall, SU compiled two lifetime bests, one collegiate best and two season bests on the day.
After two days of competition, the Raiders sit in sixth in the team standings with 112 points.
Day three of competition is set for a 10 a.m. start for prelims, with finals starting at 6 p.m.
