The Shippensburg University wrestling team opened its dual meet schedule with a pair of close defeats to Mountain East Conference opponents Sunday afternoon at Frostburg State's Bobcat Duals.
 
Shippensburg (0-2) fell to hosts Frostburg State (2-1) to start the afternoon, 26-14, and later fell to Fairmont State (1-1) by a 20-18 score.
 
No. 14-ranked 165-pound wrestler Nick Delp went 2-0 for Shippensburg, posting a third period fall of Frostburg's Mason Buckler in the opener, then majoring Fairmont State's Brock Evans, 15-1.
 
Against Frostburg, the latter half of SU's lineup nearly dug the Raiders out of an early 19-0 hole.
 
Kyler Everly followed Delp's pin with an 18-6 major decision over Duncan Kammar at 174 and Diesel Koser (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg Area) later picked up a 13-3 major decision over Alex Hoy at 197.
 
Against Fairmont, Shippensburg led 18-6 in a dual that came down to the final match.
 
A victorious 5-1 decision by Colin Marano at 125, a tech fall from Cole Coffin at 133, a pin from Mike Trainor at 149 and Delp's major decision at 165 staked the Raiders to the early lead.
 
SU clung to an 18-17 edge entering the final bout at 285 pounds, which saw Fairmont's Tyler Wise pull out a close 4-1 decision over Shippensburg's Matt Jones.
 
Fairmont State won the final four bouts of the night to complete the comeback.
 
Shippensburg is back in action Wednesday, Nov. 19 with a dual meet at Gettysburg. Wrestling is slated to get underway at 7 p.m.
