The Shippensburg University men's swimming team wrapped up its three-day weekend at the 2025 Franklin & Marshall Invitational on Sunday with splendid efforts in both the morning prelims and the evening finals in action at the McGinness Pool located inside the Kunkel Aquatic Center.
All 18 of the team's individual swims Sunday (excluding the 100-yard IM; which is not an official NCAA event) satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships qualifying standard and were also fast enough to qualify for an evening final – an impressive feat for the Raider squad.
While there were many standout events, the 100-yard freestyle was particularly noteworthy in that all six Raiders who competed in it advanced to an evening final.
Robbie Ferlick and
Mason Koeth, each of whom is already in SU's all-time Top 10 for the event, came close to equaling their PRs. Ferlick (in the championship 'A' final) and Koeth (in the consolation 'B' final) swam an identical 46.61 seconds to place eighth and 10th respectively.
The other four Raiders all recorded new PRs. In the consolation 'B' final,
Connor Ludwig took 11th in 47.16 seconds and
Josh Einolf finished 16th – Einolf's morning swim of 47.39 seconds was his best.
Mason Hockenberry and
Kevin Noldy placed 21st and 23rd respectively in the pre-consolation 'C' final after qualifying with their PRs from the morning – Hockenberry swam 47.51 seconds before lunch while Noldy clocked in at 47.80 seconds.
Noldy had a busy go of it from the first two events and aced his evening swim in the 200-yard backstroke by winning to the consolation 'B' final with a ninth-place swim of 1:57.68 and his second PR of the day.
Kye Winslow and
Cooper Mercer placed 15th and 16th respectively in the consolation final; the times from prelims were the bests for both men (Winslow – 2:00.81, Mercer – 2:01.44).
In the 200-yard butterfly, three Raiders reached the championship 'A' final. SU went 6-7-8, with
Alex Kissinger coming close to his PR that ranks 10th all-time in school history with a time of 1:55.96.
Joe Herman was seventh in 1:56.36, an effort just .07 seconds slower than his prelim.
Josh Wall placed eighth but was a second faster in the morning – his prelim was timed at 1:55.81.
Also in the 200 fly,
Luke Roettger put forth an excellent swim in the pre-consolation 'C' final that resulted in a new PR of 2:00.39 and a 20th-place finish. Roettger improved upon his prelim time by 2.3 seconds.
Carter Hawkes also swam in the pre-consolation final; his best of 2:00.27 came in prelims.
Kiran George and
Nate Wauls hit the 2:16 mark in the 200-yard breaststroke. George swam 2:16.28 but did not end up swimming in evening finals; Wauls exceeded his prelim time by 1.5 seconds to pick up his PSAC qualifier on a 22nd-place time of 2:16.55.
Ian Deck and
Ethan Dismuke established new PRs in the 1,650-yard freestyle. Deck placed 11th in 17:06.38, while Dismuke was 17th in 17:19.29.
Einolf time-trialed the 100-yard butterfly and came within .23 seconds of his PR that ranks second in school history; he swam 49.84 seconds.
SU closed the meet with a third-place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay. Koeth, Ferlick, Einolf and Ludwig teamed up for a time of 3:05.65.
Shippensburg returns to action after Thanksgiving when it travels December 5-6 to Gettysburg for a weekend invitational.
