PREVIEW: Field Hockey to host NCAA Quarterfinal on Saturday vs. Saint Anselm

SU is in the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in school history

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The No. 2-ranked Shippensburg University field hockey team (No. 3 seed) will host No. 8-ranked Saint Anselm (No. 6 seed) in an NCAA Division II Quarterfinal at 12 p.m. Saturday at Robb Sports Complex.
 
Both teams are conference champions who went 3-0 in their respective league tournaments.
 
Shippensburg won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title to claim an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament; the Raiders defeated previously-unbeaten No. 1 Kutztown (2-1), No. 4 East Stroudsburg (4-3) and No. 6 Bloomsburg (2-0).
 
Saint Anselm won the Northeast-10 Conference (NE10) Championship on Sunday to claim an automatic berth in the NCAA Tournament; the Hawks defeated Bentley (3-2 in double overtime), Adelphi (1-0 in double overtime) and Pace (3-1).
 
This will be the sixth NCAA Division II Field Hockey Quarterfinal match held at Robb Sports Complex (2006 vs. IUP, 2011 vs. West Chester, 2017 vs. Stonehill, 2018 vs. Merrimack, 2024 vs. Limestone).
 
Series History:

* Shippensburg is 2-1 vs. Saint Anselm with all matches having occurred since 2022. This will be the first non-regular season meeting between the two teams.
* Earlier this season (Sept. 14), Shippensburg posted a 4-0 victory over Saint Anselm in a neutral-site game played at Widener University.
* In 2023, Saint Anselm won at home, 2-1 in double overtime.
* In 2022, Shippensburg won at home, 2-0.
 
SHIP in the NCAA Tournament:

* Shippensburg is in the NCAA Tournament for the 18th time in school history (2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025).
* Shippensburg is 18-13 all-time in the NCAA Tournament and has won five NCAA Division II national titles (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021).
* Shippensburg is 6-4 all-time in the NCAA Quarterfinals (3-2 at home, 3-2 on the road). SU has won each of its last four NCAA Quarterfinal games; its last loss in the NCAA Quarterfinals occurred in 2014 in double-overtime at Millersville.
* Shippensburg has won six total national championships – the team's first national championship in school history came in 1979, when the Raiders claimed the AIAW Division III national championship to complete a 16-2-3 season that included a school-record 14 shutouts.
 
About Shippensburg:
* Shippensburg (17-3) is tied with Newberry at No. 2 in the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division II poll.
* Shippensburg has won 32 straight home games dating back to Oct. 11, 2022 (a 4-1 home loss to #4 Kutztown). Overall, since the start of the 2021 season (post-pandemic), the Raiders are 47-1 at home (10-0 in 2021, 8-1 in 2022, 9-0 in 2023, 12-0 in 2024, 8-0 in 2025).
* Head Coach Rayell Wallace, in her first season at Shippensburg after five years (four seasons) at Slippery Rock, has directed a Raider squad that has played a nationally-ranked opponent in 14 of the team's 20 games this season (70 percent) and posted an 11-3 record in those contests.
 
About Saint Anselm:
* Saint Anselm (16-5) is No. 8 in the NFHCA Division II poll.
* Saint Anselm is the reigning NCAA Division II National Champion. Last year, the Hawks defeated No. 2 seed Assumption (3-2 in overtime), No. 3 seed East Stroudsburg (3-0) and No. 4 seed Kutztown (1-0 in overtime)
* Head Coach Carolyn King-Robitaille is in her 14th season at Saint Anselm and boasts an overall record of 199-88. The Hawks have won three NE10 titles and are making their eighth NCAA Tournament appearance (fourth straight) under King-Robitaille.
