SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's swimming team had its first home dual meet of the season Tuesday night, dropping a competition to IUP in action from Donald N. Miller Pool.
 
Shippensburg had four performances on the night that satisfied the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying standards, with the first coming right off the bat by Olivia Carver in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
 
Her second-place time of 11:08.81 was her first of two PSAC cuts on the night, as she split 30.86 seconds on her final 50 yards in the 500-yard freestyle but came up just seven-tenths of a second shy of the win after touching the wall in 5:24.99.
 
SU's two other PSAC cuts were courtesy of Makennah Fickett, who was the runner-up in the 200-yard backstroke (2:14.93), and Bria Burkholder, who took third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:20.67).
 
Ella Nick was the runner-up in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 25.86 seconds. She also anchored the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay that concluded the evening, teaming up with Elyse Arnold, Carver and Fickett to swim 1:43.50.
 
Shippensburg returns to action in 10 days when it heads to Fairmont State for a tri-meet with the host Fighting Falcons and California (Pa.).
