The Shippensburg University women's cross country team competed Friday in the prestigious Paul Short Run presented by Asics, with nine Raiders suiting up for the Brown race at Lehigh University's Goodman Campus Course.

Shippensburg ran its first 6K of the season and was led by first-year runner Mya Trotty, who delivered a time of 22:58.3. Close behind was sophomore Victoria Bartholomew; she crossed the finish line in 23:10.3. The duo has served as the team's Top 2 scoring runners in each of the last three races. Bartholomew improved by 16 seconds from her run at last year's Paul Short.

Sophomore Caleigh Vincent was Shippensburg's No. 3 runner – marking her highest-scoring slot to date as a Raider. Just nine-tenths of a second behind was first-year Anna Schaeffer. Both women were clocked at 23:40. Vincent's finish was 65 seconds faster than her performance at last year's meet.

First-year runner Abby Gehris was Shippensburg's fifth and final scorer in the race after finishing in 24:27.3. It was Gehris's first scoring finish of the season. Morgan Hess ran 24:42 and Faith Wilson ran 26:23.

The Paul Short Run, one of the most prestigious cross country meets annually held in the Northeast, features five races for each gender to which teams are assigned based on season times and projections. The top race is the Gold, which is almost entirely composed of NCAA Division I programs. Slotted behind the Gold is the Brown – in which SU competed. The White is exclusive to NCAA Division III schools while the Green features a mixture of schools spanning NCAA Division II and III, junior colleges, independents and the NAIA.

There is also an open race held in the morning for which there is no team scoring. Livi Rieck paced four Raiders in this race and finished in 136th place with a time of 23:19.1. It was her second time competing in the Paul Short Run; she posted a time of 22:59.1 as a freshman in 2022.

Shippensburg was one of four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) schools to compete in the Brown race. East Stroudsburg (18th place) was the top PSAC finisher and was buoyed by Payton Falkenstein's 15th-place individual finish. Other conference schools were Kutztown (19th place) and Bloomsburg (27th place). The Raiders finished in 32nd place. Clarion, Gannon, Mansfield, Shepherd and West Chester ran in the Green race.

Friday marked the final competition of the regular season for the Raiders. Shippensburg will now revert to training before returning to action in three weeks for the 2025 PSAC Championships on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Edinboro.
