The Shippensburg University men's basketball team traveled to State College on Sunday for an exhibition game against Penn State. The 2 p.m. exhibition was played at the Bryce Jordan Center.
After a slow start, Shippensburg asserted itself late in the first half and out-scored the Nittany Lions in the second half, 48-38. SU shot 18-of-30 (60 percent) in the second half, including 8-of-12 (66 percent) from three-point range, after shooting just 7-of-29 (24 percent) in the first half.
Jaydon Smith led the Raiders in scoring with 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting – he was 4-of-6 from three-point range. Smith added a pair of rebounds and a game-high three steals. Smith scored 11 of his 17 points in the second half, in which he made both of his three-point attempts and was 3-of-3 at the free-throw line.
Markus Frank scored 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting and matched
David Dorsey with a team-high six rebounds.
Michael Dickson delivered 10 of his 14 points in the second half, finishing 5-of-9 from the field. Dickson had a team-high four assists to go along with four rebounds.
Trey Martin contributed five points and two assists, while
Timmy Conner added four points.
Denzel Figueroa blocked two shots.
In the second half,
Parker Smith totaled seven points and three rebounds in seven minutes of action; he made both of his three-point attempts.
Emonte Hill Jr. handed out three assists.
Ben Rill had three points and three rebounds.
Penn State opened the game on a 19-0 run and received a balanced scoring effort from its nine-person lineup en route to an 86-67 victory over the Raiders.
Shippensburg's regular season opener is Saturday, Nov. 15 at Frostburg State.
