SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Shippensburg University women's basketball team could not overcome an early deficit Monday night in dropping a 60-51 decision to Bloomsburg in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup at Heiges Field House.
Shippensburg (5-8, 2-5 PSAC) trailed by double digits for most of the contest but rallied to within six points with 52 seconds remaining. The Raiders had three players finish in double figures – two of whom came off the bench.
Sophomore
Alexis Buie reached double figures for the fifth time this season, scoring a team-best 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting. Freshman
Michelle Olak contributed 11 points, marking her third game in double figures. Buie and Olak combined for 11 free throws.
Senior
Taja Colbert played all 40 minutes for the Raiders and delivered 11 points, including a 5-of-5 performance at the free-throw line. She also had three assists and committed just one turnover. Over her last four games, Colbert has made 21-of-23 (91.3 percent) at the free-throw line.
Senior
Abbie Miller contributed on both ends of the floor and finished with eight points, nine rebounds and two assists. Over her last six games, Miller is averaging 9.2 rebounds per contest (55 total rebounds in that span).
Bloomsburg (8-5, 3-4) opened the game on a 12-0 run and never trailed. The Huskies were keyed by an impressive double-double from Katie Starr, who totaled 25 points and 12 rebounds. Starr was 9-of-16 from the field and 7-of-8 at the free-throw line and added two assists, two steals and a block. She was the only Bloomsburg player in double figures.
The two teams combined for just two three-pointers; the visiting Huskies finished the game 1-of-16 (6.3 percent) from three-point range. Bloomsburg out-rebounded Shippensburg by nine (41-32) and was 19-of-26 (73 percent) at the free-throw line.
Shippensburg hosts Kutztown at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Heiges Field House.
